A wonderful mother

Right after we finished our training session and were about to have lunch together, suddenly the doorbell rang.

It was one of our students' mother.. A law lecturer at one of the nearby universities, she had three children in our weekday afternoons #JuniorAlHafiz class. Alhamdulillah. 

She was always very nice, thoughtful, polite and with good akhlaq mashaAllah. It is no wonder that her eldest daughter received iLuvQuran's best student for Junior Al Hafiz class in 2014. The best student overall in terms of Quran, akhlaq, creativity and understanding. When you see the kindness and soft akhlaq of her mother, you will understand why her daughter is such a wonderful girl. SubhanAllah. 

When other children eat and leave their crumbs behind, this responsible girl will get a cloth and wipe the crumbs away. SubhanAllah, tabarakAllah. May Allah give us the good akhlaq to inspire and guide our children. 

She came by that afternoon to deliver a cake, muffins, crackers just for teacher's day. SubhanAllah. It wasn't publicized to our students that we would have a small appreciation for our ustaz and ustazah, but somehow she had asked our ustaz when would we celebrate teachers day and she came, taking time out during her lunch hour to deliver some treats for the team of ustaz and ustazah. May Allah bless you dear sister.

When she came to pick up her children later today, we thanked her again for her thoughful gift. She mentioned.. "No, really, we cannot thank you enough for opening this school (alhamdulillah). We are so happy and thankful for the ustaz and ustazah here.. We have benefited so much from the school (alhamdulillah)." 

"They (the children) get extra Islamic knowledge here, they learn Quran," 

"My children, my eldest girl especially, have all alhamdulillah improved so much. Even in their normal school subjects, alhamdulillah I can see she has improved a lot after joining iLuvQuran.. When I compare her results the year before iLuvQuran and after (subhanAllah, alhamdulillah)." 

"And my son (last year he was 7 yrs old, in standard 1), last year for his exams he scored all A's"

"And my youngest girl, she will always ask me to recite Quran with her every night without fail. Even when I forget, she will remind me."

SubhanAllah. Walhamdulillah. Allah blesses His obedient servants with bounties of whatever He wills. 

Jazakumullahu khairan katheera.. May Allah continue to bless you with children who have akhlaqul kareemah, and are successful in dunia and akhirah. And may Allah grant the same to us other souls as well...

Dreaming big

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim

Kami melangkah selepas zuhur ke sessi percuma oleh Media Prima di Hotel Hilton KL Sentral. 

Walaupun memang tak mampu (atau belum mampu?) untuk mengeluarkan iklan di Media Prima, tetapi kami pergi dengan niat memperkembangkan ilmu Al-Quran dengan lebih meluas.. Jika syarikat-syarikat junk food, syarikat-syarikat Yahudi boleh membuat iklan meluas di seluruh negara, malah seluruh dunia, kenapa kita yang membawa mesej Islam, mesej Al-Quran, mesej dakwah dan kebaikan tidak mahu menyebarkan cinta Allah di kalangan manusia?

Jika dahulu, para sahabat mengembangkan Islam dengan berkuda, menunujukkan contoh tauladan mereka yang baik, termasuk kadang kala membawa pedang sebagai standby direject atau diperangi sewaktu berdakwah, kini antara medium paling efektif untuk berdakwah adalah media massa.

Inspiration for teachers

I would also like to share a conversation I had yesterday.

The picture I took at Legoland was while I was waiting for an old friend- she is American muslim, became Muslim when she was a teenager through interaction with muslim friends in school alhamdulillah. 

-would it be nice to have iLuvQuranLand? A land of fun in remembering Allah and His words? :)) 

Anyway the conversation is about teaching- she and her husband are both teachers, she has a masters in special education and has taught in American schools and overseas in Hong Kong and now in Abu Dhabi.

So we were talking about the school her children go to- and she mentioned about her children's teachers...

"Some of the teachers are really good.. Some of them are whack!" (Whack = teruk/ not good) 

So I asked her, why do you define certain teachers as whack- what do they do specifically that makes them not very good teachers? (Apa yang mereka buat hingga menjadi guru yg tak bagus?) 

"Well, they don't prepare for class.. They don't have differentiated instructions for their students... Maybe she'll just print handouts for the class "

Yes, a professional teacher defines a good performing teacher as someone who will do research and prepare well for class- among others even when a module exists, a good teacher still will prepare side activities and instructions for her students. 

Remember muallimah Shikeen (one of iLuvQuran's teacher's coaches) taught us about having differentiated instructions and identifying who in our class is quick learner, middle learner and who needs more help? And that we need to treat them in a different way. All these needs preparation inshaAllah. 

When my friend said that yesterday, I was reminded of nights at the masjid in Troy New York, when this particular friend, and another more senior sister, who were both teachers, would leave masjid early or not stay for other events because they would say, "I need to prepare for my class tomorrow." Or "I haven't finished preparing for my class". And I remember once looking at a folder one of them had, it seemed like they had everything done- mcm byk dia dah prepare! But she said, no, that's not ready yet because I need to do a few more things. 

Later in the conversation, she mentioned about her son's good teachers- the good teacher teaches English, but prepares well and goes out of her way to integrate her English lessons with what Allah and Rasul taught about values like honesty and adab.. MashaAllah..  

MashaAllah. Let's become those good teachers who prepare well and inspire our students like sheikh Tawus did for Umar Abdul Aziz!

Demi masa. Sesungguhnya manusia itu di dalam kerugian. Kecuali mereka yang beriman, dan mengerjakan amal soleh dan berpesan-pesan dgn kebenaran dan berpesan-pesan dengan kesabaran - Surah Al-Asr

Free Saturday Quranic Storytelling- Surah AlMaa'un

Sneak peak from today's Free Saturday Quranic Storytelling- Surah AlKauthar :)

Main takeaways- 

1) alKauthar- the abundance Allah gives in dunia and akhirat for people who do good. And of course the description of the river AlKauthar- a wonderful river with water whiter than milk, sweeter than honey, with tents (camping in Jannah!) made of pearls, sides of gold and birds with long necks. SubhanAllah. May Allah make us amongst the people of Jannah!

2) Do what good? Offer solah and sacrifice (wan7ar = wanhar)

And of course the bad people will be cut off from goodness in dunia and akhirah.

Au 'aabiris sabeel

Jadilah di dunia spt orang asing

Atau pengembara yang akan menyambung perjalanan.  

Dunia bukan tempat selama-lamanya. 

Akhirat adalah kampung halaman kita. Rindu menuju ke sana. 

Jika kita datang bandar dari kampung, mencari kerja- tentunya mencari kerja yang baik-baik untuk membawa rezeki halal untuk dibawa ke kampung. 

Begitu juga kita di dunia, tempat bekerja dan beramal untuk membawa bekalan pahala sebaik-baiknya untuk dibawa ke syurga. 

Bekerjalah sebaiknya di 'bandar' dunia ini agar mendapat rumah sebaiknya di taman syurga.
